In the Christmas spirit: A giveaway for a cause

This time of year is always exciting.  As the weather turns colder and the leaves start to fall the holiday season fills the air with the sound of jingle bells, the smell of turkey and freshly baked sugar cookies, and the magic that is Christmas begins to influence us all.

Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the hoopla of toys, gifts and parties and forget, even if just for a second, what the holiday season is really about.

I know I am guilty of this.  Just last night, while I was picking up a prescription for Nicholas in Walmart, I saw yet another toy that I thought he would love for Christmas.  I could just imagine us helping him open his presents on Christmas morning and, in the years to come, explaining Santa and filling our home and our holidays with various holiday traditions.

'Tis the season of giving and although that does include gifts, stockings and brightly wrapped packages, the true spirit of Christmas encompasses so much more.

I was reminded of this last night as, on our way out of Walmart with the newly purchased toy, I passed a woman wearing a t-shirt for a Ronald McDonald House Toy Drive.

If you are unfamiliar with the Ronald McDonald House Charities, you can read about them here.  They are a fantastic organization and do their best to care for every family they meet.
