What's for dinner?

Starting solid foods with your first born is such an exciting time.  You get to introduce them to different tastes and textures and show them that there is a whole world out there beyond formula (or breast milk).  You find joy and laughter in watching their facial expressions as they try something new for the first time.  Then, if your child is anything like mine, you spend the next few hours of your morning cleaning up the mess.

I consider myself pretty lucky in that Nicholas loves vegetables.  The fruits we've tried so far haven't given us the best results allergy wise, so the more vegetables I can get him to enjoy, the better.  So far he's tried avocado, sweet potatoes, peas, squash, apples, peaches and pears.  Like I said before, the fruits didn't go over very well so we've been trying more veggies.  He LOVES them.  Which is great because they're so good for him and so easy for mama to make.  (Seriously, homemade baby food, super simple and you know exactly what the ingredients are!)

Although we continue to try new foods, I try to make sure I still give him some of the foods he's already tried and seems to love.  After today, I definitely have to say that I think squash is his favorite.  It was as if I just couldn't feed him fast enough, he kept trying to stick his hand in the bowl to grab more before he was even finished with the bite in his mouth.  More than once he got a hold of the spoon and while I gotta give him props for trying, not much actually made it into his mouth.

Case in point:

Oh and we did start off with a bib, but apparently it wasn't his style because he just kept ripping the darn thing off.  Now, if he is this messy of an eater now, I can only imagine what his teen years are going to be like.

Oh well, I guess that's what bathtubs and washing machines were built for right?

  1. Hooray! It worked! I make Evie's food too and squash is her favorite! As soon as she realizes she is eating squash she's like a baby bird wanting more! :)
