Tell Me A Story

I have always loved reading.  Whether it be poetry, books, newspapers or blogs, reading has always been a huge part of my life.  This is one aspect of myself that I want so badly to pass on to Nicholas.  Every night at bedtime, after he has had his bath and his pjs are on, we sit in the rocking chair in his nursery and read.  Some nights he loves it and just stares at the pictures, making noises and laughing and other nights, not so much, but hey we try.

He's got a ton of books that we pick from each night but lately it has felt like we are reading everything for the 20th time and after a while, even I am getting tired of hearing the same stories.  So that's what made today all the more exciting.  The hospital that he was born in has a program that they started a few years ago called "Books from Birth."  There main goal is to foster a love of reading by making sure that each and every child has their very own library full of books by the time they start kindergarten.  The hospital signed Nicholas up for this when he was born and each month he receives a new book in the mail.  Not only that but he will continue to receive a new book each month until he turns 5.  Well today he received his newest book, "The Gingerbread Man."

The books he has received so far

I didn't even realized something like this existed until the hospital brought it up.  So far he has loved looking at all of these books and seems to really enjoy this time before bed.  This is also one of my favorite times of day.  I love sharing something that I love with one of the people I love the most.  In fact, I spent a good portion of today looking for other books I thought he would like and in the end I ended up digging through some old boxes of stuff my mom saved and found one of my favorites from when I was little...

It's more than a few years old and the cover is pretty worn down, but I guess that just means that it was loved.  I absolutely loved reading him this story tonight and I hope that he grows to love reading as much as his mommy.

(I would love any suggestions you have for stories for Nicholas.  What were your favorites as a child?)
