4 Months

(Even though Nicholas turned 4 months back on the 9th of August, I didn't have this blog up and running yet so I thought I would just go ahead and post his 4 month update today.)

I'm not quite sure how we got here Nicholas.  It seems like just yesterday I was pregnant with you and time has flown by since you were born.  At birth you weighed 8 lbs. 1/2 oz. and were 20 inches long.  You were a big boy just like your daddy was when he was born.  Yet, here we are, a full year after daddy and I learned you were coming into our lives and you are growing up so fast.  It makes mommy a little sad to think about how quickly you are changing and growing but also excited about watching you grow into the person you will become.  At your 4 month appointment you weighed in at exactly 16 lbs and your height amazed me at 26 inches.  Once we figured out your tummy issues, you started gaining weight and growing like there is no tomorrow.  You are getting so big little man!

This past month, the doctor had us start you on cereal; however, after a few days of that your tummy issues returned along with a serious rash.  Your pediatrician said that it was eczema due to diet.  After looking you over and checking you out, he told daddy and I that it looked like your body just couldn't digest the grain.  As of right now they are leaning towards the idea that you may have inherited your daddy's Celiac disease, but they also said this may be just a reaction that you may grow out of.  I'm hoping that this is temporary Nicholas and that you won't have to deal with these tummy issues for the rest of your life like your daddy has had to, but if not, mommy and daddy will be right here with you making sure that you are happy and healthy.

In more exciting news, even though you can no longer have cereal, you get to start trying other solid foods this month.  Mommy is making all of your baby food at home from scratch for a couple of reasons: 1) because it's much healthier for you than the jars from the store that are loaded with preservatives and 2) because with the tummy issues you have already had and the higher than average chance of certain foods causing you to have allergic reactions, mommy isn't taking any chances.  So far you have tried sweet potatoes and peas and you loved both of them.

As of today you can roll over from your front to back and back to front.  You are learning to sit up all by yourself; however, when you see your feet you immediately try to stick them in your mouth and end up falling forward.  You are growing and changing so fast that it's hard to keep up with you.  I really want you to stay my sweet little baby for just a little bit longer but I can't wait to see what new adventures the next month holds for you!
