101 in 1001

So last night, after reading through some of my favorite blogs, I came across a new post by one of my absolute favorite bloggers, Jess from Here Comes the Sun, about the Day Zero Project.  I have seen this in the past and have thought about doing it, but I just never seemed to get around to it.  However, now that I have this blog to keep track of and share my progress, I'm ready to give it a go.

This project is so incredibly simple.  You make a list of 101 specific things you want to do in 1001 days.  A little under 3 years.  With that much time, you can add a few longer term goals without it taking so long that you feel discouraged.  I started making my list last night and couldn't wait to get started checking some of these goals off of my list.

I haven't filled the list completely yet, but here is what I have so far:

  1. Visit the farmer's market
  2. Take Nicholas on a picnic
  3. Take Nicholas to the zoo for the first time
  4. Pick out a real tree for our first Christmas as a family of 3
  5. Show Nicholas the ocean
  6. Try a new recipe every week for 3 months
  7. Make homemade jam
  8. Finish decorating Nicholas' room
  9. Pay off debt
  10. Complete our home inventory
  11. Buy our first home
  12. Research and buy a new camera
  13. Send out Christmas cards
  14. Give homemade gifts for Christmas
  15. Get Nicholas' picture taken with Santa
  16. Finish my degree
  17. Take Nicholas camping
  18. Visit a new state
  19. Take our first "family vacation"
  20. Plant a garden
  21. Organize our storage cabinets and closets
  22. Declutter our house, find things we don't need and no longer use and donate them to Goodwill
  23. Bake something at least once a month
  24. Take Nicholas to a pumpkin patch
  25. Visit a "pick your own" farm
  26. Go ice skating
  27. Complete 10 craft projects
  28. Complete a 365 photo project
  29. Write a letter to Nicholas of what I wish for him and put it away for his 18th birthday
  30. Do something special for my husband once a month, just because
  31. Make a pie from scratch
  32. Donate 100,000 grains of rice via Free Rice
  33. Host 5 giveaways on this blog
  34. Participate in the Great American Bake Sale
  35. Buy coffee for a stranger
  36. Take Nicholas to the aquarium
  37. Make a gingerbread house
  38. Pay for a stranger's meal
  39. Take a photo of the same place every month for a year and then turn it into a calendar for the next year
  40. Spend a day exploring my city
  41. Have a second child
  42. Take Nicholas out to the lake to feed the ducks
  43. Read to Nicholas every night before bed
  44. Buy something from Etsy
  45. Attend Eric's 10 year high school reunion
  46. Celebrate Nicholas' first birthday
  47. Start a college fund for Nicholas
  48. Buy another car
  49. Take Nicholas trick-or-treating for the first time
  50. Start a family Christmas tradition
  51. Buy and use reusable cloth grocery bags at least 10 times
  52. Make homemade ice cream
  53. Send someone flowers just because
  54. Volunteer my time to a worthy cause
  55. Go to a drive-in movie
  56. Eat at 5 new restaurants
  57. Stay at a bed and breakfast
  58. Make photobooks for Nicholas' first year
  59. Make all of Nicholas' baby food
  60. Give cloth diapers another try
I hope to have this list finished within the next week, but I am already getting a start on a few of the items and will blog about them as I finish them.
