So last night, after reading through some of my favorite blogs, I came across a new post by one of my absolute favorite bloggers, Jess from Here Comes the Sun, about the Day Zero Project. I have seen this in the past and have thought about doing it, but I just never seemed to get around to it. However, now that I have this blog to keep track of and share my progress, I'm ready to give it a go.
This project is so incredibly simple. You make a list of 101 specific things you want to do in 1001 days. A little under 3 years. With that much time, you can add a few longer term goals without it taking so long that you feel discouraged. I started making my list last night and couldn't wait to get started checking some of these goals off of my list.
I haven't filled the list completely yet, but here is what I have so far:
Day Zero Project
Start Date: August 27, 2011
End Date: May 23, 2014
- Visit the farmer's market
- Take Nicholas on a picnic
- Take Nicholas to the zoo for the first time
- Pick out a real tree for our first Christmas as a family of 3
- Show Nicholas the ocean
- Try a new recipe every week for 3 months
- Make homemade jam
- Finish decorating Nicholas' room
- Pay off debt
- Complete our home inventory
- Buy our first home
- Research and buy a new camera
- Send out Christmas cards
- Give homemade gifts for Christmas
- Get Nicholas' picture taken with Santa
- Finish my degree
- Take Nicholas camping
- Visit a new state
- Take our first "family vacation"
- Plant a garden
- Organize our storage cabinets and closets
- Declutter our house, find things we don't need and no longer use and donate them to Goodwill
- Bake something at least once a month
- Take Nicholas to a pumpkin patch
- Visit a "pick your own" farm
- Go ice skating
- Complete 10 craft projects
- Complete a 365 photo project
- Write a letter to Nicholas of what I wish for him and put it away for his 18th birthday
- Do something special for my husband once a month, just because
- Make a pie from scratch
- Donate 100,000 grains of rice via Free Rice
- Host 5 giveaways on this blog
- Participate in the Great American Bake Sale
- Buy coffee for a stranger
- Take Nicholas to the aquarium
- Make a gingerbread house
- Pay for a stranger's meal
- Take a photo of the same place every month for a year and then turn it into a calendar for the next year
- Spend a day exploring my city
- Have a second child
- Take Nicholas out to the lake to feed the ducks
- Read to Nicholas every night before bed
- Buy something from Etsy
- Attend Eric's 10 year high school reunion
- Celebrate Nicholas' first birthday
- Start a college fund for Nicholas
- Buy another car
- Take Nicholas trick-or-treating for the first time
- Start a family Christmas tradition
- Buy and use reusable cloth grocery bags at least 10 times
- Make homemade ice cream
- Send someone flowers just because
- Volunteer my time to a worthy cause
- Go to a drive-in movie
- Eat at 5 new restaurants
- Stay at a bed and breakfast
- Make photobooks for Nicholas' first year
- Make all of Nicholas' baby food
- Give cloth diapers another try
I hope to have this list finished within the next week, but I am already getting a start on a few of the items and will blog about them as I finish them.
